Type species: Amanita mappae (Batsch) Fr.

Amanita series Mappae includes all and only those taxa of Amanita sect. Validae with precisely one of the following characters:

(1) a soft, compressible, submarginate to marginate bulb or

(2) a firm, distinctly abrupt, sometimes sumarginate bulb liable to vertical splitting during expansion of the basidiome.

Note: Remains of the friable universal veil may be present at the stem base or on the margins of marginate bulbs.  The series is presently separated into two morphologically and genetically supported stirpes.
