The type species of this autonymic taxon is that of the genus: Amanita muscaria.

Amanita subgenus Amanita is defined as comprising all and only those taxa of the genus Amanita that bear spores that are inamyloid, i.e., have spore walls that do not become darkened by exposure to iodine (e.g., Melzer's Reagen).
