intro
Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text where data is missing or uncertain.
The following material is from Neville and Poumarat (2004) and original research of R. E. Tulloss.
pileus
Schumacher coll.: 37 mm wide, white at margin, sordid over disc, campanulate; context not recorded; margin nonstriated, incurved and first; gluten layer prominent, transparent at first, becoming reddish-brown over disc.
lamellae
Schumacher coll.: free, whitish, ventricose; lamellulae present.
stipe
Schumacher coll.: 114 × 7.5 μm, white, becoming pinkish in dry region above annular zone (with surface in this region water-repellant and suggesting surface of Camembert cheese to collector), cylindric, with incomplete S-curve at base; bulb lacking; context white, not hollow, staining wine red in region very close to surface only in area of insect damage; annular zone original part of gluten layer connecting to pileus margin, superior; gluten layer pronounced from annular zone to near base, transparent at first, staining wine read in areas where handled or otherwise damaged.
odor/taste
Schumacher coll.: Odor and taste both farinaceous.
macrochemical tests
Schumacher coll.: 5% KOH - immediately lemon yellow on gluten (pileus and stipe) and in stipe context, becoming yellow-orange and finally red-brown (suggesting old meat).
pileipellis
Schumacher coll.: absent
lamella edge tissue
Schumacher coll.: fertile.
ecology
Schumacher coll.: In small group. At 40 m elev. In humus and acid sand on vegetated inland dune near Pinus sylvestris, Betula pendula, and Quercus "cf. petraea/robur."

Spore data for collections provisionally identified as: Limacella illinita var. rubescens sensu Neville & Poumarat
Each spore data set is intended to comprise a set of measurements from a single specimen made by a single observer;
and explanations prepared for this site talk about specimen-observer pairs associated with each data set.
Combining more data into a single data set is non-optimal because it obscures observer differences
(which may be valuable for instructional purposes, for example) and may obscure instances in which
a single collection inadvertently contains a mixture of taxa.
