intro |
Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been
thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text
where data is missing or uncertain.
The following material is based upon original research by R. E. Tulloss. |
pileus |
83 mm wide, dark brown at disc (7F6-7), brown away from disc (6F4-5), broadly convex with prominent abrupt umbo, viscid, silky-fibrillose; context ??; margin tuberculate-striate (0.35R); universal veil absent. |
lamellae |
free, close, white in side view, orange-brown as dried, thick, 5 - 7 mm broad, marginate (brown, concolorous with pileus), occasionally forking; lamellulae absent in some sectors of pileus as observed in exsiccata. |
stipe |
170 × 9 mm, narrowing upward, finely fibrillose-striate above, more markedly striate near volva, white, with dense covering of small, gray brown floccules; context ??; exannulate; universal veil as saccate volva, white, bruising buff, proportionally large, membranous, persistent. |
odor/taste |
not recorded. |
macrochemical tests |
none recorded. |
pileipellis |
145 - 175 µm thick; suprapellis 50 - 70 µm thick, comprising colorless partially gelatinized hyphae; subpellis 95 - 105 µm thick, comprising orange-brown ungelatinized hyphae; filamentous, undifferentiated hyphae ?? µm wide, ??; vascular hyphae ?? µm wide, ??. |
lamella trama |
bilateral, divergent; wcs = 30 - 40 µm; subhymenial base comprising predominantly one rank of elongate to clavate (e.g., 35 × 21 µm) to narrowly ovoid cells diverging rather abruptly at angles of 30° to nearly 90°, occasionally including chain of up to 3 small cells, occasionally with single long cell directly giving rise to basidium/-ole; central stratum with intercalary fusiform cells up to 12.5 µm wide; filamentous, undifferentiated hyphae 1.5 - 6.0 µm wide, branching, apparently restricted to central stratum; divergent, terminal, inflated cells not observed; vascular hyphae not observed. |
subhymenium |
wst-near = 25 - 40 µm; wst-far = 55 - 60 µm; occasionally branching structure, comprising small subglobose to pyrifrom cells and inflated to partially inflated branched cells (among largest cells of subhymenium, sometimes giving rise to at least one basidium/-ole, up to 23 × 20 µm) and partially inflated short hyphal segments, almost all elements with major axis perpendicular to central stratum, with two to three cells between bases of longest and shortest basidium/-ole in given region; with basidia/-oles arising predominantly from subglobose to pyriform to branched inflated cells and only infrequently from short uninflated hyphal segment. |
basidia |
46 - 70 × 12.0 - 20 µm, dominantly 4-, also commonly (Mueller 4256) 2-sterigmate, with sterigmata up to 5.0 × 2.0 µm; clamps not observed. |

basidiospores |
[20/1/1] 10.1 - 11.6 (-13.7) × (8.5-) 8.7 - 10.0 µm, (L = 11.0 µm; W = 9.2 µm; Q = (1.06-) 1.07 - 1.28 (-1.40); Q = 1.19), hyaline, colorless, thin-walled, smooth, inamyloid, subglobose to broadly ellipsoid, infrequently ellipsoid, adaxially flattened, sometimes expanded at one end; apiculus sublateral, cylindric to truncate-conic; contents monoguttulate; white? in deposit. |

discussion |
t.b.d.
This species is distinguished from A. fuligineodisca by (among other character states) its prominently umbonate pileus, broader lamella trama, thicker pileipellis, dried lamellae not being sordid brown to sordid tan, and spores with a higher value of Q' (in the present case, = Q). |
